Day Nurseries

Description of service

The Day Nursery is a social and educational community service, made up of spaces, rhythms, objects and persons and is designed to favour the harmonious development of children up to the age of three, involving, accompanying and supporting the family through projects that take account of each person’s individuality and promoting active participation on the part of the Day Nursery itself.
The Day Nursery works in close cooperation with the family and engages in an ongoing exchange of information and experience, sharing between parents and staff the important places and moments in the child’s growth. In doing so the Nursery aims to respond to the mental and educational needs of children as well as their diet and care, helping the development of language learning (taking account of their native language), cognitive and motor functions, and encouraging independence and interaction with peers and adults.

Attendance is as per the timetables given below. All staff meet the specialisation standards laid down in applicable regulations, and care, education and play are carried out in accordance with the guidelines of the educational project.

Timetables

Day Nurseries are open for at least eight hours a day from Monday to Friday. The timetable each day is flexible within the following set times:

  • Normal timetable
    Arrive: 7.30–9.00
    Leave: 12.15–12.45 or 14.30–15.30
  • Extended timetable
    Arrive: 7.30–9.00
    Leave: 16.30–17.00 or 17.30–18.00
(only for day nurseries in Via Milano and Viale Venezia)

Children should be accompanied to the Day Nurseries and picked up by parents or another person of 16 or over who has received parental authorisation.

Calendar

All Day Nurseries are open from Monday to Friday all year round except for the summer break (for the months of July and August) and for the Christmas and Easter breaks. On request and depending on availability of places, a summer service is also available. Continuous vocational training of the staff involved in the educational project under applicable regulations requires that the Day Nurseries close for a few days each year: these dates are posted on the notice board of each Day Nursery.

How to use the service

Application is made using the form (Asili Nido modulo that can be downloaded from this site or picked up at the addresses listed in the ‘Contact details’ section.
Applications for admission of children to Day Nurseries should be handed in or posted to the local District Office as follows:

in April to start Day Nursery in September
(subject to availability of places)

from May to October to start Day Nursery at some time during the school year
(subject to availability of places)

Once the deadline for applications for September has passed, the Family Services Office:
- gathers official family details (‘certificati di stato di famiglia’)
- draws up waiting lists to be approved by the Management Board
- notifies successful applicants that their children have been given a day nursery place.

Admission criteria

The Day Nursery service is available to children residing in the City of Bolzano. According to the existing rules, admission criteria assign points to each family on the following basis: work and income, household members and any evidence of situations of particular hardship for the family of the child (overcrowding, unfit accommodation, illness, etc.).

Response times

Replies to applications made in April for Day Nursery places will be sent out by registered mail, following approval of the waiting list on 15 July assigning all available spaces. Whenever places become available for applications made by the end of October, or for children on the waiting list who were not assigned places initially due to lack of space, families will be notified immediately.

Fees paid by the family

The maximum rate to be paid for Day Nursery attendance is decided every year by the Municipal Council.
Fees paid by each family are decided on the basis of their financial circumstances (income, assets, outgoings, etc. in accordance with Decree of the President of the Province No 30/2000) and the timetable of attendance chosen. Families should contact the following addresses to find out exactly what level of fees they will pay.
